Abstract

As online education transitions from a secondary modality to a primary educational pillar, the role of "Teacher Presence" has emerged as a critical determinant of student persistence and satisfaction. This article examines the multifaceted nature of teacher presence through the lens of the Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework, specifically focusing on instructional design, facilitation, and direct instruction. By synthesizing current pedagogical strategies—ranging from video-based feedback to proactive communication—this study explores how a visible, active instructor presence mitigates the "transactional distance" inherent in digital spaces. Preliminary findings suggest that high levels of perceived teacher presence correlate significantly with increased student engagement and lower attrition rates. The article concludes with actionable recommendations for educators to humanize the virtual classroom without succumbing to "digital burnout."
